Full Belly Deli fans (and social media followers), you know the deal – FBD serves up specials at both the Reno and Truckee delis every single weekday and on Saturdays too. It’s that whole variety is the spice of life thing, and it’s how our employees get in the mix. If you’ve ever wondered about the method to the madness, this post is for you. Here’s the secret to those FBD specials.

On the Daily

In addition to our standing menu – with favorites like the breakfast sando, dirka dirka and turkey sub, plus all the possibilities inherent to our build-your-own option – folks stopping by any given day have that wild card option – the special. So where do they come from? Well, sometimes we luck into special cuts of meat (hello, Western Tri-Tip), and we always like to take advantage of seasonal produce.

Over the years, we’ve come up with specials that blew so many minds, we have to keep bringing them back. We’re always getting requests for specials like:

  • The “Not So French Dip,” stuffed with thin-sliced tri-tip, provolone, garlic butter and au jus
  • The “Italian Grinder,” filled with smoked ham, Genoa salami, hot cappicola, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, roasted garlic aioli and Italian dressing
  • The carne asada burrito, bursting with marinated steak, refried black beans, cheddar, house salsa and sour cream
  • The “Nacho Pollo Loco,” with Dorito-encrusted chicken breast, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, hot sauce and hot ranch

Sometimes, it’s our staff driving the specials. It’s amazing what you see (and eat) when you travel, dine out and even catch on cooking shows, and when our employees come in banging on about amazing food – boom. A special is born.

And Then There are Thursdays

Ah, dependable Thursday. This is the only day that you could order our daily special in Reno, then cruise up to Truckee for the very same special. It’s just that good. Thursdays are Greek Gyro days – tender strips of beef or lamb, lettuce, tomato, red onion, tzatziki sauce and feta, all lovingly wrapped in soft pita bread.
